Horus is a falcon god worshipped from the dawn of ancient Egyptian civilization until the introduction of Christianity.
 
The god has a rich history of worship. Over the years, several roles have been attributed to the god Horus. Horus was initially the god of royalty: the pharaohs were considered as the incarnations of Horus send by the Sun god Ra to rule Egypt with perfection
 

A pendant from ancient Egypt

During some era of the long ancient Egypt period, Horus was the protector god of Egypt against the forces of evil represented by the god Set, the god of chaos, deserts and tempests. According to the Egyptian myth called "myth of Osiris", Horus fought with his uncle Set for the throne of Egypt, after Set murdered Osiris, the father of Horus and the first king of Egypt appointed by the Sun god Amun-Ra himself.
 
If Horus has gained or lost many roles over the centuries, the hawk god has always been the Egyptian god of sky. His name means "far" or "high" and explain that the god have a head of falcon (the falcon being a bird that attacks its prey from great heights).
