An Egyptian ankh necklace

Many Egyptologists have hypothesized that the ankh is a symbolic representation of the sunrise. The upper part of the ankh would be a circle symbolizing the Sun that has just risen from the horizon represented by the horizontal line. The vertical section below the horizontal line would symbolize the path of the Sun in the sky.

At the beginning of the Thinite period, around 3150 BC, the first dynastic pharaohs from the south (of Upper Egypt) consolidated their control over Lower Egypt by establishing their capital at Memphis.
 
In Memphis, they earned the ability to control labor and agriculture in the fertile delta region, as well as trade routes to the Levant that were both strategic and lucrative.
